PUBLIC NOTICE
CITY OF CLINTON PROPERTY OWNERS
Chapter 94 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Clinton,
94.01 PURPOSE.
The purpose of this chapter is to require owners of residential property to cut their grass, weeds, vines and brush when it exceeds eight inches in height.
94.05 NOTICE TO OWNERS; ONCE PER CALENDAR YEAR.
Notice to the property owner shall be provided as follows: The Code Official shall cause to be published prior to June 1 of each year in a newspaper of general circulation within the city a notice stating that maintaining property as required under this chapter shall be done, and that the property owner has until the growth reaches eight inches in height to cause the work to be done. Further, the notice shall state that failure to comply after publication of the notice will result in the city causing the work to be done, and the costs incurred by the city shall be assessed against the property in the manner provided by law and this Code of Ordinances. No further notice shall be required, provided the Code Official may post notices or provide such additional notice as the Code Official deems appropriate under the circumstances.
94.07 FAILURE TO COMPLY.
If the property owner fails to maintain the property as required under this chapter after notice is given as provided in this chapter, the Inspector shall order the work to be done by city employees or by a contractor. The total cost of the expense of the work done, including any administrative fees, shall be paid by the property owner. The city shall assess the offending property owner $200 to offset administration fees and contractor costs for lots one-fourth acre or less, with an assessed cost increase of $100 for every one-fourth acre thereafter. Failure to pay shall result in the cost being assessed against the property for collection in the same manner as a property tax.
