The mission of the Clinton Fire Department Building Safety Division is "To protect the health, safety and welfare of the community through excellence in customer service, code administration, education, and enforcement.".
City of Clinton Building Code Update
On July 1, 2019, the City Of Clinton updated our building code to comply with the State of Iowa Standards. The code update incorporates the following 2018 version to replace the 2012 version:
- 2018 International Building Code
- 2018 International Residential Code
- 2018 International Fire Code
- 2018 International Mechanical Code
- 2018 International Fuel Gas Code
- 2018 International Existing Building Code
- 2018 International Property Maintenance Code
- 2018 Uniform Plumbing Code
- 2018 International Energy Conservation Code
- 2020 National Electric Code (No Change)
- 2010 ADA Standards (No Change)
The Clinton Fire Department Building Safety Division is responsible for enforcement of the building codes from permit application through plan review, inspection and final approval of all building construction projects within the city limits. A professional staff with nationally recognized certification strives to provide excellence in customer service. In addition to code enforcement, the department also provides public education and customer assistance. Clinton Fire Department Building Safety Division is here to help you with any construction project, large or small. Our dedicated staff will guide you through the permitting process so that you can successfully complete your project.
Clinton Fire Department Building Safety Division strives to ensure a safe and healthy living environment through the enforcement of the International Property Maintenance Code, as defined in the City of Clinton Municipal Code. This is done through the scheduled inspections of all residential rental units within the city. Residential rental properties are buildings owned by one party and lived in by another party known as a tenant. The housing inspectors also investigate all complaints alleging violations of the Housing Code. To file a complaint please contact Clinton Fire Department Building Safety Division.
