Construction Permits
(2018 IBC / IRC Building Codes)
- Complete the Permit Application
- All permit applications must be fully completed and signed.
- Attach all required supporting documents (plans, specifications, calculations, etc.).
- Incomplete applications will not be processed.
- Completed permits and documents can be:
- emailed to Clinton Fire Department Building Safety Division
- mailed to 344 3rd Avenue South Clinton, IA 52732
- brought into the office (344 3rd Avenue South Clinton, IA 52732) to process.
- Plan Review Process
- Once all required documents are received, your application will be submitted for plan review.
- If the reviewer has any questions or needs additional information, they will contact you directly.
- When all documents are reviewed and approved, the permit will be processed, and you will receive a notification.
- Partial Permits for Larger Projects
- If applying for a partial permit:
- The permit will only apply to the documentation submitted at the time the application is submitted
- Valuation and permit fees will be calculated based only on the partial submitted scope of work.

- Once your permit is processed:
- You will receive an email with the permit attached, or
- A phone call letting you know the permit is ready for pickup.
- You will also receive instructions on how to pay the permit fees.

- Permits fees can be paid:

- Be sure to indicate the permit number or the property address with the payment, or it will not be processed.
- Permit fees must be paid in full before scheduling any inspections.
- Projects with unpaid fees may be subject to:
- Stop Work Orders
- Property liens if unpaid after 90 days
- Permits fees can be paid:
- Scheduling Inspections
- The permit holder (puller) is responsible for requesting inspections.
- 24-hour notice is required for all inspection appointments.
- An installation representative must be present unless otherwise stated or approved.
- Work completed without permits or inspection may need to be uncovered or removed.
