Para Transit
Para-transit service is an advance reservation, door-to-door transportation service provided by the Clinton MTA, for persons with disabilities who are unable to ride the Clinton fixed-route bus system. Para-transit is available throughout the entire Clinton service area. Special contracted service is available for the residents of Clinton County.
Persons who are eligible under the ADA criteria may have a Personal Care Attendant (PCA) accompany them at no cost. (A PCA is someone who goes along to assist you, as opposed to a companion who is joining you on your trip.) Companions are required to pay the same fare as the person they accompany and may travel on a space available basis. Arrangements for companions must be made at the time the trip reservation is called into the office. You may take as many packages of reasonable weight as space allows with you, which the Para-transit drivers are allowed to help you with to your door.
Para-transit service hours are 6 am to 6 pm. Monday through Friday and 8 am to 3:30 pm on Saturdays. No service is provided on Sundays or the following six holidays: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.
Para-transit reservations are taken during office hours, 8 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday, Saturday 8 am to 3:30 pm and closed Sunday and the six holidays mentioned in the paragraph above. The office personnel are here to answer your calls Monday through Friday 6 am to 6 pm, Saturday 8 am to 3:30 pm or you may leave a your name and number on our voice mail and we will return your call.
Reservations for trips may be made up to 14 days in advance. Standing Order trip requests do not have to be called in repeatedly. Cancellations and changes for the service must be called in at least one hour prior to your pick-up time.
Para-transit will provide same-day service providing there is space available. All requests for trips, cancellations and/or changes must be made through the MTA office at 563-242-3721, not through the drivers.
The fare for ADA eligible passengers is $2 each way. The general public may also access this service at a rate of $10 each way depending on availability. Cash fares must be paid with exact change. Para-transit Punch cards are sold for $20 for 11 rides.
For the going trip, the scheduled pick-up time will be at least 15 minutes before the appointment time. Passengers are required to be available and ready to travel 10 minutes before the scheduled pick up time, (the drivers are not to wait for passengers more than 5 minutes after the scheduled pick-up time.) Drivers are then expected to pick up the passengers within a "window" of time consisting of 10 minutes before to 15 minutes after the scheduled pick-up time.
For the return trip, the driver is expected to pick the passengers up at the scheduled pick-up time or within 15 minutes after the scheduled pick-up time. Call-ins, or people without scheduled return pick-up times will be picked up as soon as possible within an hour.
Drivers will assist the passenger from the common door of the building to the vehicle and from the vehicle to the common door of the destination. Drivers will not take any passenger using a wheelchair up more than one small step or landing no higher than 6 inches. Drivers will not take passengers up floors in office or apartment buildings. All steps, ramps, walkways and loading areas must be free of ice, snow and other barriers that present a danger to the passenger and/or the driver.
